A true Canadian hero..

A few of you have been encouraging me to update this blog so here's a 'lil sut'n sut'n..

This plaque is posted on the Sports Wall of Fame at my alma matter (Univ of Alberta). Reading his story made me wonder if such heroes still exist in our great nation. I mean this guy volunteered for D-Day. Some of you may know of the late Pat Tillman who quit his NFL career to serve (and ultimately lose his life) with the American forces in Afghanistan, but could you find such a character in Canada today? What motivates these men to "stand on guard for thee"? Would you go to war for your country if you were called upon? Would you want your brother to? Your husband?

I'm just so happy to actually see an update. You made me think, Ian about if I would want Jamin to go to war for our country or not. Hmm...most of me says no way, but then there's the part of me that says yes, he should...it's our duty. I pray the day never comes though...oh, and I feel optimistic that there are still noble men out there...I know a few :)

Yayayay!!! A new post!

I have to admit, I have worried about Canada going to war--I'm reminded of the possibility of Tyler going to war every week I see him in uniform. Scary. I agree with Sarah and pray the day never comes.

Overseas service at the time of D-Day and prior to that was voluntary. Canadian participation in WW11 is a well kept secret in Canada. Former TiCat Denis Whitaker has a few books out that are a good read.
