At the Overseas Missions seminar I went to during the CMF conference, we were discussing the monetary sacrifice some missionary doctors make when they decide to work abroad. But in reality, when you view things from a global perspective, a $300,000 and a $30,000 annual salary really ain't that far off.

Voices in my head

Have you ever had someone or something speak a clear, audible, and intelligible message to you in your dreams? Well around the time I decided to come study medicine in Ireland, I had a dream..... (seriously, I dreamt this)

I was at some sort of gathering either at church or a friend's house, and I was catching up with a friend of mine (whom I'd also consider an older "sister"). We went to the same high school, church, youth group, univ, and now she's the proud mother of Carter Justice.

So we were chatting about life, work, school, and when I told her I was going to study medicine, I vividly remember her asking "Do they have a CMDS you can attend?" (Christian Medical and Dental Society). And up to that point in all my preparations for coming over to Ireland, I had not even considered looking into this. When I woke up, I was thinking.. wow, that was a poignant reminder to check out this group. It was neat cuz the reminder came from someone I respect and someone who'd actually say something like that to me in real life.

My Response:
The CMDS exists in the UK as CMF (Christian Medical Fellowship) and unfortunately they're not as active in Ireland as they are in England. So thus far, I've only been receiving their publications and not much else. However, this year I've decided to attend their annual student conference coming up this weekend (Feb 9-11) in Derbyshire, and I'm excited to see why God's called me to check out these guys and what exciting life-changing lessons he has in store!
