Spring Skiing
Just got back from a week in Bourg St. Maurice, France. Here's a quick run down..
40.00 = return plane ticket from Dublin to Grenoble
19.00 = train ticket from Grenoble to Bourg
41.50 = 1 day lift pass at Les Arcs
24.00 = 1 day ski and boot rentals
1.50 = Cdn dollars to equal 1 euro
3456 = height in metres of highest skiable point at Tignes
-2 = avg temp in Celsius during the day on the mountain
+8 = avg temp in Celsius during the day in the valley
6 = number of days of sunshine
4 = number of days skied
Priceless experiences:
- Skiing on powder that felt as soft as clouds
- Actually skiing in the clouds (for 1 day)
- Cloudless skies (for the other 6 days)
- Sunburnt nose and goggle tan
- Carving on the edges of my skis for kilometres on end
- Only thing better than slipping out of ski boots is putting on Crocs afterwards
- Jelly legs at the end of the day
- Amazingly deep sleeps at night
- Chocolate muesli for breakfast
- Learning the French (greeting) kiss
- Snowball fights with the Kay gang
- Having such a relaxing time that I actually began looking forward to learning medicine again
- Meeting fellow Christians and missionaries in Bourg
- Discovering possibly the darkest place - spiritually - that I've ever been to. Only a handful of Christians in this valley of several thousand; up against stiff opposition
- Hearing about the need for more Christian workers in this town.. anyone interested in skiing and ministering for a year?? (seriously, let me know)
